JAB22 Outside Cover
The cover is letterpress printed, first using an uncut linoleum blocks to put down a transparent ochre, then with a polymer plate to lay down the large 22 with the same transparent ochre, then two more polymer plates for the black and red layers.
JAB22 Colophon Page and Inside Back Cover
The inside cover was also printed with a tranparent ochre using a linoleum block, and then overprinted with the map which was a derivative of the scanned Rascher map at the Library of Congress (also reproduced in full color as part of The Chicago Stock Yards Project). The cow was originally a printers block that was proofed, scanned, text added, and turned into a polymer plate which was then cut into the map plate so they could be printed at the same time. A small number of the covers have a second cow which the artist thendecided was too much and removed for the rest of the run.
